Artist's Comments

Another Chaos Space Marine Concept, a devotee of Tzeentch this time around. Instead of using only monster-mutant cues, I opted for something that was a bit more mystical or shamanic as many of Tzeentch's followers seem to be sorcerer-types. So along with the animal-mutation cues, I put in other details such as a pyramid reminiscent of the Illuminati, prayer flags to Chaos (after Tibetan prayer flags), "third eye" stuff, etc. I know it looks busy, but keep in mind that most of it is surface detail and would greatly diminish when painted. Any comments would be appreciated, thanks!

Note: I changed the orientation of this character... seems to work better this way.

Great stuff man! Can't wait to see him painted up. Only one thing I have issue with: his face/helmet; it seems a little un-tzeentch... perhaps the more recognisable approach to that may work better... or you could just ignore me! Still very lovely work.

Hey, thanks for the comments... just wondering, what makes a recognizable Tzeentchian helmet?
:iconphiq:
Well it's actually rather simple; they seem to all have a T shaped split down the middle of their helmet... I guess you just have to look at the models and the artwork, but they all have the same basic design, right from the lowest guys to the top. They're also look very ancient Egyptian in their look too, with King Tutenkamun type of designs. Well, that's the Thousand Sons tzeentch design anyway :) (and they look the coolest, I'd have to say).

I see what you mean, I have the Chaos Codex. It's not exactly clear on most of them, but there is a hint of it there. The Egyptian style is indeed representative of the Thousand Sons, but I didn't want to follow that exactly... the main thing I wanted to capture is the theme of mutation and a sense of the mystical quality that the followers of Tzeentch seem to embody, thus the strange "religious" baubles...

looks preatty cool, hat remains me elements of Khemri army ;)

ahah u love that mystical shit, hare crisna powa! let me critic it: those parts of him wich are like more clear, look strange, like his right leg and the thing in the back, they arent integrated with the hole figure,
when is the color?
when will u start drawing your own monsters?

Yeah, totally right there. The whole egyptian thing is thousand sons stuff. I've got the codex too... some great art in there. Keep going with it in the same vien though, Tzeentch ain't called the "Lord of Change" for nothing ;) And as long as you keep the signature colours as well I guess
