Dune: Fremen by jubjubjedi Dune: Fremen by jubjubjedi
I've been re-reading the original Dune series again and was inspired to do some Fremen fighting Sardaukar. The Sardaukar is based on Jean-Giraud Moebius' design for the aborted Jodorowsky Dune project.

The Fremen are probably getting worried about all the spilled water/wasted blood at this point LOL.

they wouldnt because they are spilling out the blood of their enemies. they would only worry about their own water usage. love how you did this

" and why did you know tell me about the fighting capabilities of these people? we flushed out a nest of them in the imperial basin and THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN, overpowered our sadukar"- Emperor shadam the fourth

Yeah dude :) this is badass :)

This is how the Fremen ought to look. The still suits are perfect. And I love the centurion looks of the Sardaukar. You've scored big points with me.

Thanks man! Granted, the Sardaukar aren't my designs, they were Moebius' designs from the aborted Jodorowsky version of Dune...

Fremen vs sardaukar pics always seem interesting to me. I'm rooting for the sardaukar but it seems that they're losing.,., :(

Thanks! I particularly liked this one over the other two designs because it felt the most functional and straddled the line between sci-fi and historical fantasy the best.

I agree, although for some reason I always really liked the rad-suited ones in Lynch's film as well.

Yeah, those are pretty iconic! I love how inhuman they were... though they never did describe why they needed the suits to breath, lol.

I always rationalized it as them being one of the crappy commercial stillsuits that were described in the book as being vastly inferior to the Fremen varieties.

But that was just me. ;)

LOL... I see. Personally, I thought it had something to do with being from Salusa Secundus or something rather.

That probably makes more sense, since SS was an atomic wasteland. Why shouldn't Sardaukar uniforms incorporate radiation suits into their gear? :D

The look of your Fremen needs getting used to,
but thumbs up for the Moebius Sardaukar.

The composition en bloc is nice too.

Thanks! Yeah, this was mostly a composition study, something as iconic as the Fremen and their stilsuits would take quite some time to design properly.

LOL, well I wasn't thinking of her specifically, but there's definitely a little child with a knife there holding the Sardaukar's arm while stabbing him :D...

Heaps good picture and all

but one small detail just keeps nagging at me. Would the fremean have any skin visible for perspiration to escape from?

Thanks! From what I recall, the Fremen only expose their hands for something delicate, usually, they wear gloves. For their heads, its mentioned that their mouths are covered, but I think they would occasionally wear clothing (such as a burnoose) over their heads. I don't think they are described as being fully covered from head to toe.

I think that maybe they would only be covered from head to toe for desert travelling i.e. when it's at its hottest. but yeah stillsuits do have the entire body (except for the eyes)covered as can be seen on the cover of the first book (or at least on my copy of it)

but for battle I'd have to agree with you as water conservation might not be on that guy in the pics highest priority

Interesting, I looked up some of the old art (mostly Schoenherr), and yes, they are depicted with hoods/head covering. I guess I've been looking up written description and have not found that to be the case. Thanks for the tip!

Awesome!
I found it a bit dissapointing that the Sardaukar had no memorable victories in the Dune novel. For the most feared shock corps in the universe, they sure spent allot of time tasting lead XP

LOL, well Herbert, like Tolkien, wasn't really big on writing exposition about battles and stuff, so their bad-assnes was really just implied for the most part. I guess their biggest victory in Dune was their coordinated attack with the Harknonnen's against House Atreides, though I think most of that battle can be condensed into a page or two. Also, as cool as a proficient fighter Duncan Idaho is, he doesn't do much either, though we find out much later that he manages to take down 19 Sardaukar or so before he get's overwhelmed.

I never knew about the taking out 19 Sardaukar part. Do you know where it is in the book?

LOL, yeah, his genetic code does get used up quite a bit. The part about the Sardaukar is mentioned in Children of Dune, possibly in other books as well. I couldn't tell you where exactly as I only have the audiobook at the moment, but according to Wiki, it's page 227 in Children of Dune.

Seriously, though, Awesome picture.
