Character design for NGMOCO's mobile game "Hellfire", which has just been released. This is a level 3 version of an Earth Lord "raid boss" named Loam.

Really nice job, wish I could draw at least half as good as this.

I've been playing some games for a while and now I even know who's responsible for some of the cards... How did you come up with the ideas? Or did NGMOCO or Aeria knew, how it should look like in first place??? Can't think of that - again, really nice job!

Thanks for the kind words!
Well I usually receive a few sentences from the client that describe the character, as well as some picture references... other than that, they usually give me a lot of freedom to make something up.  I work with the art director during the design and painting process as well, so he also helps guide me toward a final image.
I make up a lot of this from my head, so I would recommend doing as much reading as possible so you can get your imagination going!  Also, watch a lot of genre movies and look at all the awesome art out there!

This is one of the coolest things I have seen! How long did it take you?
