Finished art for the Kali character in a series of designs for class based on Roger Zelazny's Lord of Light book.
"Kali, Goddess of Destruction, also known as Durga, consort of Kalkin, and Candi the Fierce, is another of the First. Over the centuries, she has been Sam's lover, companion, wife, comrade-in-arms, and finally enemy. She yearns for the days when the planet was still wild and unconquered. As Sam warns Yama, who loves her, she loves only "those who bring her gifts of chaos". Like Yama, she has the death-gaze power, along with many others only hinted at. She also carries a weapon, the skull-wheel, which is some kind of ultrasonic emitter that causes confusion and oblivion, even to the demons."
SJD04's comment was based on how people generally take a mythology and massively tweak/butcher it to fit their needs. Implying they are Hindu, they are seeing their Goddess depicted as some weird game character with mecha arms. It would be like someone non-Christian, depicted the Christian God with mech arms and robo-brains. When Kali Ma is already so misrepresented ("Temple of Doom" anyone?) and not really known about in the Western world, whenever anyone sees an image such as this, it gives the wrong opinion. Not saying you are intentionally being misleading or pushing misrepresentation, merely stating how this person must have felt. I will say your image is very interesting, and very creative. If it was of something other than Kali Ma, I would champion this image as a great character. As it is not, and is someone's misrepresentation of a much revered Goddess, I have to chalk this up to another butchering of a beautiful series of mythologies for a writer to make something "work" for his series (thus furthering misunderstanding). Great piece and have a good day Jub. Jai Ma Kali!
