In this scene, Yama, also called the Death God, confronts Sam/Buddha. Sam/Buddha is seated under what amounts to the famous "Bodhi Tree" in Buddhism, but of course, this being an alien planet, I had my own take on it.
"The Buddha appears, preaching a philosophy that undermines the doctrine of Karma and the need for rebirth, and instead promises Nirvana to those who can release themselves from the illusion of the world. The goddess Kali, realizing that this is Sam's work, sends her own executioner, Rild to kill Sam, but Rild falls ill and is tended to by Sam's acolytes. Recovering, Rild cannot carry out his mission and instead becomes one of Sam's pupils, eventually equalling his teacher's wisdom. He takes the name Sugata, preaching in earnest what Sam had done only calculatingly. Yama descends to finish Sam for once and for all. Sugata faces Yama on a treetrunk bridge over a river, knowing he cannot defeat the God of Death, but fights him anyway. Yama kills Rild and proceeds to find Sam. However, Sam tricks him and escapes, promising to return with some 'new weapons'."
Thanks! Not too long, about a day and a half. I already had the characters designed before I placed them into this scenario. Original size is 11"X17" on vellum.
I like what you are going for here but I wonder if it would have looked better if Yama was more perpendicular to Buddha. I just think that it would be a little more dramatic plus help balance out this tipping over feeling I am getting. I do love Buddha's pose and the environment is pretty awesome.

I tried that out, but this way I manage to get more detail into the drawing. He stepping over tree roots and what not, so he is in fact climbing over a slope of sorts.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
